Falkirk members Gillian and Andrew

Gillian Niven, a member at our Falkirk Health club, is fundraising to raise money for British Heart Foundation.

In August 2021, Gillian and Andrew Niven went for a night in the town with their friends Jim and Gillian McLelland. Jim came to Andrew’s aid outside a bar in Falkirk city centre when he went into cardiac arrest and collapsed on the floor.

Having done a CPR refresher course only weeks prior, Jim called 999 and began performing CPR on Andrew whilst they waited for an ambulance.

He used a defibrillator that was on the wall outside the bar before the emergency services arrived and Andrew was taken into hospital. Thankfully, Andrew went on to make a full recovery.

After seeing more loved ones having similar experiences a few months after Andrew, Jim and Gillian wanted to raise money for further research into heart disease.

Jim and his wife, Gillian, recently took part in the London Marathon on 2nd October 2022 to raise money for the British Heart foundation and to highlight the importance of CPR and defibrillators.

Altogether, they’ve raised more than £20,000 for the charity.
